Alonissos Multi-Terrain Challenge 2016

The Alonissos Challenge was organised again this year by the Organization of Culture, Sports and Social Activities of Alonissos, which is a group within the Dimos (Council) of the island.  The event took place on Sunday May 29th and advertised, as usual, by a large banner in the harbour area of Patitiri and posters around the island in shop windows.  Neither of us could do the 10km walk last year but Dave did the 10km walk this year following the normal circular route via Milia beach, up 'Killer Hill' and back down the main road with a detour through Votsi and onto the Roussoum Yialos road and passed the school into Patitiri.

There were a large group starting at 8.30am with the 15km runners leading off and the 15km and 10km walkers behind.  The weather wasn't too hot this year and with the water drops along the route no-one could dehydrate.  Dave decided to push himself this year and went round the course in around 2 hours.  However, the certificate and medal strictly belong to Gerry because she was registered for the 10km to get the T shirt and Dave wore her number and timing chip.  So Gerry got the trophy's and Dave got aching leg muscles!!

As always a great event that was very well organized and next year the 12th Alonissos Challenge is on Sunday 4th June 2017.
