Carnival on Alonissos - 18th February 2018

There appeared to be little or no interest from the community of Alonissos for Carnival this year and at a meeting for the non-Greek community on Thursday January 11th only Dave, Mike and Di turned up, even though Di said she was off the island on Carnival day.  Dave and Mike agreed a Carnival theme of 'Knights of the Crusades' and both went off to sort out costumes and kept in touch.

A couple of weeks before Carnival Dave was in Taverna Panselinos in the Old Village, after a Friday dance class, when Yorgos sprung the news that Carnival for adults was cancelled this year and it would only be for the younger school children.  A week later Yorgos then told Dave that Carnival was cancelled completely, even for the children.  However, the school PTA took matters into their own hands and Carnival went ahead for the children and any 'adult children' that wanted to join in.

There was a music truck and a souvlaki truck and the procession left the school around 12.50pm and arrived down the harbour, having gone passed the church of Agia Paraskevi, around 1.30pm.  The weather was kind and everyone had a thoroughly good time and Carnival ended on the harbour front around 3pm.

Next year Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday is April 28th and so Carnival will be on the 10th of March.
