Epiphany on Alonissos - 6th January 2018

The Epiphany service took place in Patitiri on 6th January which this year was on a Saturday.  Dave went down to the harbour around 10.15am and the 'Blessing of the Water' service started around 11am.  The Aegean Flying Dolphin Erato was in the port but didn't have its flags flying this year.  It was a lovely clear and sunny day with a light breeze blowing which meant there was a good sized crowd on the harbour front.

Eight people braved the water with 4 boys, 2 girls and 2 adult men jumping in to try and retrieve the cross.  The cross was thrown into the water twice and retrieved before the brave souls jumped into the water on the third time.  After one had got the cross they swam to the nearest concrete steps along the harbour front.  The ceremony ended at 11.11am followed by Father Avraam blessing the gathered congregation and distributing holy water from the large silver urn on the table.
