Glossa Dance Festival 2014

We were invited by the Alonissos Dance Group to accompany them to Skopelos, where they were taking part in a dance festival on Friday 29th August.  We all met at the harbour front in Patitiri to take the 4pm Flying Cat to Glossa.  This is where things become a tad awkward as the port known as Glossa is actually Loutraki and Glossa is the town on the hillside above the port.  The journey out wasn't that great due to the high winds, so the Flying Cat went via Agnondas.  We had a drink and finished our pizza from the Alonissos Cafe on the Cat and arrived ready for anything, although Yorgos had told us that the only certain thing was the time of the Cat leaving from Alonissos!!

We arrived at Glossa (Loutraki) and cars were waiting to take us to our accommodation in Glossa above the port.  We had a lovely room in an apartment block and after settling in we went out for a drink and a bite to eat.  Getting down to the port at Loutraki (Glossa) proved less than easy but we managed to get a taxi and taking a card from him we had access to transport during our stay.  A large stage had been built in the plateia behind the port and rows of seating had been laid out in front of the stage.

People settled themselves down and the lady organising the event made the initial introduction to the event.  There were 6 groups that danced during the evening:  2 groups from Skopelos and dance groups from Alonissos, Larisa, Neo Ionia (Volos) and Karditsa.  There are pictures of the other groups dancing and Dave took videos of the dances performed by the Alonissos Dance Group.

We went off to a local taverna to have some food and sadly missed the Karditsa group dancing but we were joined by all the 'Alonissiota' who were on Skopelos and we had a fantastic evening of good food and wonderful company.  Music was playing in the plateia and people were dancing on the stage and we danced in the street outside the taverna to the music we knew.  We headed off around 1.30am and left the rest of the dance group to party on.

We had breakfast at a lovely bakery near the apartments and then got a taxi to the port to meet up with everyone.  We got the Express Skiathos ferry back to Alonissos at 12.30pm.  We had the most brilliant time and we have been invited to join the Alonissos Dance Group again on the mainland in Kozani, the centre of saffron production in Greece, in the 2nd week of November.  We can't wait!!
