Snow

Bad weather had been predicted for the weekend of the 16th and 17th of February 2008 so Dave left Alonissos on the Friday and was therefore not around when the snow struck the island.  He did however travel down by coach from Volos to Athens in a snow blizzard.  Gerry unfortunately had to stay on the island and the pictures shown below are a testament to the bad conditions that hit the island.  Fortunately the electricity supply didn't fail but the temperatures went down as far as -12C on Sunday, which froze the 12 inches of snow that fell on the Saturday completely solid. No-one could get out of their houses because the whole of the Old Town was covered in sheet ice.  The thaw set in on Monday and by Tuesday the snow had melted and temperatures were up to 25C!!!
